Job Title: Community Organizer  
Location: Iqaluit, NU Office 
Hours: 37.5 hours/Week
Duration: 12 Weeks
Salary:  $35.00 CAD / hourly

The role of Community Organizer is being hired through the Wage Subsidy - Canada Summer Jobs. The role of Administrative Assistant will be full-time (37.5 hours weekly) temporary positions,  spanning over the course of 12 weeks, from your start date.

Working alongside rural, remote, Indigenous and other communities, Pinnguaq supports the development of STEAM skills through innovative technology, art, and play. 

What does success look like at Pinnguaq?

  • Engaging with thousands of young learners and adults across the country through the delivery of community-centred workshops
  • Designing and deploying interactive experiences, online learning modules, and maker kits to teach STEAM fundamentals to all ages
  • Publishing the nationally-recognized Root & STEM magazine, create a space to explore diverse voices and stories in STEAM
  • Operating makerspaces in Nunavut & Ontario providing hands-on access to tools, equipment, and training for inquisitive minds and makers

Job Summary:  
The responsibilities of the Community Organizer role will be identifying and meeting with potential local partners in Iqaluit.  In addition, you will be explaining to them the benefits of working with Pinnguaq. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and a knowledge of Nunavut. 

  • Assist in expanding and recruiting for our local partnership network 
  • Seeking out opportunities with local organizations to find potential projects we could collaborate on, with both our non-profit and growing enterprise division. 
  • To act the point of first contact for existing and new partners 
  • Attend local pan-territorial meetings with our Iqaluit team to identify potential partnerships and build relationships.
  • Assist in developing a package that highlights all of Pinnguaq’s incredible partnership perks. 
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Attributes and Qualifications: 
Equal consideration will be given to non-academic skills and experiences of candidates.
  • Must be between the ages of 15-30 years old 
  • Either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Hold a local address to Iqaluit, Nunavut 
  • Ability to communicate efficiently verbally and in writing 
  • Bilingual in Inuktitut would be an asset.
